How to remove a background and save a transparent PNG

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP with a clear foreground subject.
  2. Click Remove background. On the first run, the browser downloads about 16 MB of model and runtime files from this site.
  3. Inspect the subject and edges. Adjust Edge adjustment, then select Erase background or Restore original under Touch-up brush and paint corrections on the preview.
  4. Click Download PNG. Checkerboard areas represent transparency; check the downloaded file on the background where you plan to use it.

Prepare a portrait for a new background

Choose a portrait with a clearly separated person, run Remove background and inspect the hair and shoulders. Use Restore original if part of the subject is missing, or Erase background for leftover scenery. Save the PNG to place it over a background in another editor; this tool does not add a replacement scene.

Is my image sent to an AI service?

No. The U2NetP model runs on your device. Your browser downloads the model and runtime from this website, but the selected photo is not uploaded with those requests.

Why are hair, glass or small details missing?

The lightweight model estimates a foreground mask and can make mistakes, especially around fine or transparent details and busy backgrounds. Correct it with the brush; some images need more detailed editing elsewhere.

Why does the first run take longer?

The first run downloads and initializes the AI files. Later runs may reuse browser-cached downloads. Processing speed still depends on your device, and you can cancel a running operation.

Supported files and limits

One image up to 20 MB and 16 megapixels. PNG output preserves transparency. The model estimates the main subject rather than selecting a specific object, and perfect edges are not guaranteed.

Hair or transparent objects are missing

Use Restore original for missing subject areas and Erase background for remnants. Fine hair, glass and busy backgrounds may need more detailed editing than this lightweight model can provide.

Check your saved result

  • Inspect hair, hands and edges against both light and dark backgrounds.
  • Keep the original and confirm that the downloaded PNG is transparent where intended.
